Snow removal

After each snow storm, the city employees take out the snow ploughs and the dozers and tackle the main arteries first and then move on to the secondary streets and sidewalks and on to clearing the fire hydrants and skating rinks.

When snow stops falling and the snow along the edge of the roads is high enough, the snowblowers and tractors then come into action.

Parking

Parking on the streets is prohibited during determined snow removal days. Signs will be planted the night before on snow banks to indicate the hours during which the snow removal operation on your street will take place.

In general, on main roads, snow plowing is done between 7:00 pm and 7:00 am and on secondary streets during the day.

No parking signs will be put up between 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm. You will have at least 4 hours from that time to move your vehicle and park it elsewhere.

Clearing Fire Hydrants

You may not shovel snow near or onto fire hydrants. Its borders must always be cleared away within a 1.5 meter/5 foot radius.

Snow and Ice pushed out of Private Property

According to the by-law, it is strictly prohibited to push, throw or lay snow or ice from the property onto the road, sidewalk or public path or lot, or the property owner or occupant may risk getting a fine should he himself do or tolerate such action. Please ensure to advise this to your snow removal entrepreneur, who by the way must hold a municipal permit for this activity.

Accumulation of Snow, Ice and Icicles on the Roof

The accumulation of snow and ice may cause physical harm or material damage should it fall from your roof. Please keep an eye on your roof and do not allow accumulation to form.

Igloo – Tunnel

For safety reasons, do not allow children to build an igloo or a tunnel by the side of the road. They may slip on the pavement which is reserved for cars. If you do allow them to build it, please ensure they do so in the backyard and keep an eye on them! Accidents happen fast... Chocking due to a collapsing igloo or tunnel can happen any time.
