Dogs Dog tags Dog tags are available for sale at City Hall. The tags cost $15, and are valid from July 1st to June 30th of the following year (one year only). It is mandatory by law to get a tag for your dog. A stray dog that is not wearing a tag, unless you claim it, will be sent to the SPCA, corner Decarie and Jean-Talon (in Montreal). It is then your responsibility to pick it up from there. The purchase of an identification tag is therefore well worth your peace of mind. Fine for vagrancy: $50 + $25 = $75 Fine for violation of City by-law: $50 + $25 = $75 Canine Pollution The reduction of canine pollution represents an eloquent example of civic gesture in terms of cleanliness. Those who claim not to like dogs are more often people who do not appreciate the illicit droppings left on their private property, sidewalks, roads, in parks, etc ... by dog owners who are not very civic-minded. So if you love dogs, help make others appreciate them as well. Fine for violation of by-law: $50 + $25 = $75 When you walk your dog, ensure at all times to have the necessary items to pick up its droppings and dispose of them in a proper manner.
