The City of Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue is proud to announce that 31 hectares of its territory that is renowned for its biodiversity will be added to the l'Anse-à-l'Orme Nature Park.
Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, August 9, 2011 – The Mayor of Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Francis Deroo would like to acknowledge the investment the Ministère du Développement Durable, de l’Environnement et des Parcs (MDDEP) is making within the municipality to conserve biodiversity with the acquisition of 31 hectares from Investissement Québec in the Rivière à l'Orme ecoterritory.
Protection of this zone for conservation was one of the main priorities of the newly elected council in November of 2009. A little more than a year and a half later, the City of Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue is proud to announce that the respective partners involved have come together to protect this special area that is rich in biodiversity and wildlife.
“This is the first and most important step in conserving the Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue portion of the Rivière à l’Orme ecoterritory” said Mayor Francis Deroo. “There is other work to do but this represents the largest portion of the area that has been identified as having the most ecological value.”
The 31 hectares will be added to the l'Anse-à-l'Orme Nature Park and will eventually fall under the management of the Direction des grands parcs et du verdissement de l’Agglomération de Montréal.
Citizens of not only Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue but of the whole island and surrounding area will benefit from a magnificent area that is home to forests, wetlands, walking trails, and areas to bike and recreation.
