Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue

a Fair Trade Town

Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue officially became a Fair Trade Town May 21st 2010, the first Fair Trade town in Montreal's West Island, and the 13th in Canada! Our sister city, Wolfville, Nova Scotia, was the first town in Canada to be recognized as a Fair Trade Town by Fairtrade Canada. Look for these Fair Trade logos when purchasing your coffee and chocolate.

The Fair Trade Town campaign is an exciting initiative that recognizes communities that actively support Fair Trade, increasing both availability and awareness at the local level.

Why did Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue become a Fair Trade Town?

  • To distinguish our community as a leader and to confirm our commitment to supporting the principles of Fair Trade, including a fair price, respect for labour standards, environmental sustainability, and more direct and equitable trade
  • To improve the livelihoods of the millions of farmers and workers in the developing world who benefit from Fair Trade
  • To create awareness and encourage local citizens to make ethical and sustainable choices
  • To unite our community in a common cause
  • To have fun and be creative
